Packing Room By Room
Moving to a new home or apartment is usually stressful because you have so much to do and, typically, not enough time to do it. One area where you can save yourself some time is packing your belongings. Knowing the best way to pack your things ensures that you get the job done quickly and efficiently. This article examines the issue more closely by giving you some tips on how to proceed when you are packing a particular room.
Kitchen
Packing up the things in your kitchen can be tricky because there are so many small items to deal with in addition to your more compact appliances. Start with the appliances, such the microwave or blender, and put them in the original box, if you still have it.
For plates and glasses, wrap them in paper and place them in a box that has two layers of bubble wrap on the bottom. If you have a glass or dish that is especially fragile, wrap it in an old t-shirt for extra protection. Pots and pans can simply be stacked according to size in a cardboard box.
Kitchen knives should be wrapped in a rubber band and packed in a shoe box. Do the same for your spoons and forks and place them in the shoe box also.
Bathroom
Many of the items in your bathroom do not need to be packed. If you can replace an item inexpensively, simply throw it away and purchase a replacement when you arrive at your destination. One key point is to make sure that you collect all of your medicines and first aid supplies and place them in a plastic container. Take the container with you in your vehicle so that it's easily accessible if needed.
Put items like hair brushes, makeup and nail clippers in a toiletry bag. Washcloths and towels can be placed in cardboard boxes or plastic bags.
Bedroom
Leave your clothes on their hangers and place them in a wardrobe box, which is a special box you can get from your moving company. Place bedding items in cardboard boxes lined with packing paper. Items like radios and clocks should be wrapped individually before being put into boxes. As for your mattress, the movers can give you a special carton that will protect it from dirt and debris during the move.
Packing is much easier if you know the best way to pack up the objects in each room. For more tips and information, talk with your moving and packing service.
